DNA, 07 August 2012

The Balgandharva Art Gallery of the Pune Municipal Corporation is all set to wear a new look soon. The renovation work of the art gallery is in final stage and beautification work is going on. The civic body has made provision of Rs49.94 lakh for a complete renovation of one of the most prominent art galleries in the city.

The renovation includes fully air-conditioned hall, new ceiling, tiles, panel boards and a special room for artists. Since May, the renovation work is being carried out by Basera Constructions. The art gallery is expected to be ready by August end.

Although the civic body has spent over one crore rupees over its Balgandharva Rang Mandir since last year, no work of renovating the art gallery was carried.

Manager of Balgandharva auditorium, Bharat Kumawat said, “Earlier the art gallery would look like just any hall. But after renovation it will be completely a new art gallery.”

Due to the centre location of Balgandharva auditorium, the gallery also receives good response from artists and art lovers,” Kumawat said.

Shaikh Mohammed Hanif, contractor of the work said, “The art gallery which has around 3500 square-feet area will have extra panels in the middle with good quality lights in order to facilitate art lovers to appreciate the art.”

In this regard the standing committee of the PMC will approve the tender of Basera Construction in its meeting on Tuesday.
