About the Website:
What is IndianArtCollectors?
IndianArtCollectors is a portal where collectors and artists of Indian contemporary art meet. It hosts one of the largest collections of Indian contemporary art online and is a one stop resource for anything related to Indian art. It provides artworks from collectors and artists both, a comprehensive list of Art Galleries, listing of upcoming art events, daily updated Art news and also a Blog for collectors and artists to exchange views!
Works from Collectors: Collectors log on to the website and upload their works for other collectors to see and admire. The site has an inbuilt messaging system through which collectors can contact each other and also buy and sell art privately and discreetly without paying any commissions.
Works from Artists: The website also hosts works from the studios of some artists who have been especially invited at the forum to sell their works directly to the collectors. Such works have a shopping cart sign against them and the collectors receive a personally signed authenticity certificate from the artist if he buys any of these works.
The red flash symbol means that the collector is "willing to part with" the artwork. If you are interested in acquiring it, you should send a message to the collector. The artworks with Add to Cart sign are on sale from the artist through IndianArtCollectors. You may simply click on that and proceed to the shopping cart to acquire that artwork.
Buying Art Through IndianArtCollectors
I wish to buy a painting can I negotiate the price?
No, prices on IndianArtCollectors are all inclusive and non negotiable. Since our commissions are one of the lowest in the Indian art world, our prices are amongst the lowest too.
Can I have a look at the painting before buying it?
Unfortunately, that is not a possibility since we are a web based portal for art. It’s a click and buy model. However, care is taken to ensure the image is as close to the real artwork as possible.
I like a painting. Can I reserve it?
No, you cannot reserve paintings for purchase at a later date. However you can put it in your "My Favorites" by clicking on the “Add to My Favorites” link against the artwork.
What is the sequence of events I order a painting?
Once you order a painting, the artist is immediately informed of it and gets the order ready to ship. We await the payment to be credited into our account and subsequently inform the artist of your shipping address who then ships the artwork to you through a reliable courier service. When the collector confirms receipt of the art work and satisfaction, the payment is then transferred to the artist.
So, after I order the work, I just wait for the painting to come?
Almost. We have an in-built tracking system where all three parties, the collector, the artist and IndianArtCollectors can track the status of the Order. If the payment is not by credit card, then you are requested to log into your account and under "Manage Orders" update the status of your order to "Payment made". This keeps IndianArtCollectors on the alert to look out for your payment getting credited. The painting is immediately then, dispatched to you. When you receive it you are again requested to log into your account and under "Manage Orders" update status to "Order Received". At this juncture you are asked for your feedback to ensure that the painting is not damaged. When this assurance reaches us, we transfer the money to the artist concerned.
How soon can I get the painting?
You can get the painting delivered almost as soon as the payment gets credited into IndianArtCollectors bank account. The artist couriers the work in a time period of one or two days.
What if the painting is damaged in transit? Can I return it?
In case the work gets damaged in transit on account of negligent handling or poor packing, it can be returned to the Artist within 2 working days – this means you should ship it back within 2 days even if it takes longer to reach the artist, that’s okay. The other reason you can return the work is because the image does not match the artwork. However, our T&C does not allow you to return the work because you have changed your mind and do not like the artwork anymore. Such a return is not covered by our terms of sale.
For Artists:
I am an artist. How can I sell my works through IndianArtCollectors?
If you are a professional artist you should register with IndianArtCollectors at "Artist's Sign Up". Our Art Panel will review your application on the basis of your sample art works and bio data and send you an invite or reject for the forum accordingly. Please keep in mind that we have a highly discerning collector base and the Art Panel's decision is final on this. If you are invited to the IndianArtCollectors forum you will be given a log in name and password. Using these, you can log in to your account and post art works for sale. All you have to do is upload the images of your art works and set your own price.
How do I set my prices on IndianArtCollectors?
Artists can set their own prices on IndianArtCollectors. However, they should ensure that they account for shipping charges, the IndianArtCollectors service commission as well as the service tax charged on the commission. Since on IndianArtCollectors, commissions are much lower than other art galleries, we expect the 'all inclusive prices' listed by artists to be the lowest on this portal so that collectors benefit from this model as well.
What commission charges does IndianArtCollectors charge from artists on sales?
IndianArtCollectors charges 20% commission from artists on all artworks displayed and sold through this portal. Further a service tax of 12.36% on the 20% commission is recovered from the buyer and therefore included in the final price quoted. Thus, prices listed on the website are all inclusive.
Are there any specifications of size of the image that I submit?
Yes, it is preferred that the size of the painting is 300-350KB big. Also, please make sure that you have edited out the borders and frames from the photograph.
I have uploaded the image of my painting but it is still not showing on the website?
When you upload the image of your painting, it goes to the backend office for editing purposes. Once this is done the image gets activated on the website. If there are many works waiting for submission at the back end, then they are put in queue to be uploaded gradually in one or two day’s time.
The image of my painting is not even getting uploaded. What do I do?
Please make sure that the image is not too big. The painting itself can be very big, but you can still reduce the size of the image on the "Paint" function in your computers, to a size that is about 100 KB big.
Where can I view paintings on the website?
Paintings on the IndianArtCollectors forum are posted in various categories.
- The entire gallery can be viewed on IndianArtCollectors Gallery.
- Works that have recently been posted can be viewed on "What's New".

For Collectors:
How do I post my collection?
All you need to post your collection are images of your artworks. The ideal size of your image should be 100-150 KB (jpeg or gif). The image should be good quality WITHOUT borders, frames and text.
Once you have this image, just login to your account and click on 'Post your collection' to upload the same. Remember to add the bio-data if it is a new artist. Also do write a few words about the artwork and your impressions on the same. Just the way you would explain to a friend who visits your home!
Do I have to pay to post my collection?
No, IndianArtCollectors is hosting art collections for free at present. The mission of IndianArtCollectors is to create an online portal which showcases the best artworks in Indian contemporary art , which we know, are in the possession of collectors of Indian art across the world.
Should I post my collection only if I want to buy sell art works?
Absolutely not! The main objective of this site is to share your art collection with like minded collectors of contemporary & modern Indian art. Other collectors will enjoy viewing your paintings and can send you messages complimenting it. They may also seek information on the artists or references for getting their artworks. Buying and selling is only a secondary objective of the website, but a logical one, given the high commissions art collectors pay for transacting in the secondary market.
Once you have logged into your account and uploaded your artwork it will appear in your Collector's Area under the "View your Collection" section. In the right hand corner against the artwork you will have an option of marking your artwork as "Willing to Part With". Simply tick this check box, and your artwork will appear on the web site with the "Willing to Part With" flash.

I am interested in the works of an artist. How do I buy his/her painting?
If the painting is by an artist who is registered with us then you can simply login as a user, click on Add to Cart and proceed to buy it.
If the painting is by an artist who is not registered with us, then it belongs to a collector with whom you can directly negotiate. In this case, you will see a “Send Message to Collector” link against that work. Simply login and send a message to the collector enquiring about the price and authenticity details. In this case IndianArtCollectors will not be involved in the transaction in any way.
When you can contact the collector through our inbuilt messaging system, the message is sent privately and anonymously - only your username will show up as your identity. The two of you can then transact privately if you wish to buy sell art.
If that is the case, you may want to check if your Internet Explorer accepts pop ups. In case you have pop up blockers, in other words, your Internet Explorer has been set to disable pop ups, then accessing the website may give you a problem. To enable pop ups, (if you use Internet Explorer) go to "Tools" in your menu bar and enable pop ups. If you do not use Internet Explorer and instead use Netscape Mozilla, you have to go into "Tools" in the menu bar and from there go to "Options" to enable pop ups.
How will I know if the works posted on this site are original?
Each collector agrees with the 'Terms & Conditions' of IndianArtCollectors while posting their paintings. This clearly states that the artwork is original and he/ she have documentary proof for the same. IndianArtCollectors advises its members to ask for this documentary proof while undertaking any transaction.
If another collector contacts you, his/her message will appear in your 'Message' under 'Collector 's Area'. You can reply to him through this messaging system or contact each other outside this portal once you have exchanged your contact information. In the spirit of building communication on this online portal, IndianArtCollectors requests you to be prompt in replying to your messages.
What do I do if I want to cancel my work from the website or if I wish to edit information that I have given against it?
If you want to delete a painting, simply go into View Collections in your Member Area and delete the work. If you want to edit the information, click on Send Request and send a message to us.
