Tapan Mitra's abstract style of painting gives a feeling of nostalgia. The artist often goes back to his college days - the vast yellow-green cornfields, the flowing river, cluster of palm trees, the mystique vanishing horizon, the light from the rising and setting sun; all this have had an influence on his paintings. Various shades of a single colour has been used in some of his artworks to produce a stunning semi-abstract landscape, extremely pleasing to the eye.
